Peace In These Days
“For unto you is born
this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord…And suddenly
there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and
saying, Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Luke 2: 11,13,14
How God’s Word says it
all!
These verses from the book of Luke perfectly express the joy we feel about the
birth of Christ and the privilege we feel of being placed by our Lord Jesus
Christ as the shepherd of the flock which includes us.
With the spray of
activity which we experience during the Christmas season, we need to constantly
look for opportunities to lend something special this season…
…Special in that we’re
not overwhelmed by the busy-ness of these days, which can easily bring
cheerlessness and empty joy. Contend
with me for a special touch of Holy Spirit rejoicing.
…Special in that we’re
not driven by the frantic rush of meaningless activity but ask for a season of
God-directed living that is manifested by peace in these days, which may
include busy-ness but without pressure.
Here’s a personal
check-list I read once:
Think of some way to greet people at this season which
avoids the trite, and effectively introduces (without self-righteousness) a
tone of reality. Let’s be thoughtful as well as thankful.
Don’t just buy a religious card, but jot down a thoughtful,
appreciative note. You may find that
honest to-goodness friendliness might even accomplish more than a tract…at
least at this particular season.
Watch for people who are “under it.” Between the tinsel, glitter and multi-colored
lights, you’ll find crowds of distressed, love-hungry people who ache for
someone to care.
Plan to worship with your church family this Christmas at
the special designated times of gathering.
May
the Lord release through you a flow of supernatural love and life during these
days.
Be a child again.
Not a childish one, but a simple, rejoicing-in-all-things child. After all…this season, like everyone says,
“is for children.” Make it yours!
“Let us come before His
presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him.” (Psalm
95:2) Together, let’s share in His goodness
which has become ours through Jesus.
