The
Power of the Laugh
“A
merry heart doeth good like a medicine.”
Proverbs 15:13
Few things
you will ever find adds spice to your life like a good laugh. Always has and always will.
The other
day, my son said, “Dad, do you know
why 11 year-olds can’t go to Pirate movies?
Because they are Rated “Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.” I couldn’t stop laughing for 5 minutes. Too
classic! King Solomon understood that we can’t live a
fulfilled existence without it. He wrote
in Proverbs 15:13,
“A
merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” In other words, it’s just what the doctor
ordered for just about everything that ails you. Listen to this anonymous thought on the power
of the laugh.
“Laughter is one of the greatest
mental tonics know to man. It is the second most powerful human emotion we as
people can express (the first being love).
Laughter can dispel anxiety; help manage stress, depression, fear, and
worry. It can stimulate the healing
process. Laughter provides strong medical, psychological, social and even spiritual
benefits. Laughter is like internal
jogging. It enhances the respiratory system, helps oxygenate the body, relax
tense muscles, and is an all around painkiller.
It will lower pulse and blood pressure.
Laughter can pave the way for a new and exciting outlook on life. It is the universal communicator that can
cross all boundaries of race and culture.
Humor can be found in just about every daily situation. We just need to stop and think, and just take
a good look around us and we can always find reasons to share joy. Laughter is saying, ‘I’m O.K. You’re O.K.’
It’s a way we can accept what we can’t change. Laughter can be the driving
force to make life alive again.”
Considering
the fact that laughter works so many wonders in our lives, it’s quite amazing
we don’t find more opportunities to do it.
Learning to laugh at yourself, learning to laugh at life, and learning
to laugh with one another is a great start to a new you and a new year.
Do you know why Cannibals don’t eat
clowns?” I said to my son, “No why don’t
they?” He said, “Because they taste
funny.” And with fun, we should live.
Of all the vitamins,
jumpstarts, and battery charges you can take, a good laugh tops them all. Rumor has it that it might even help your
circulation.

Reflection:
1)
Are
you getting a daily dose of laughter or has it fizzled from your life?
2)
Think
of a way that you can laugh today. (A
friend, family, or a good joke)
